WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MODERN (Bruno Latour)
I also return frequently to Bruno Layout’s WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MODERN for its clarity, brevity, and organization. It’s also a text I read during my Interdisciplinary M.A. at Gallatin—and its relevance to the concept of Interdisciplinarity is important to me here. He writes of what he terms hybrids—large, international- and planterary-level problems such as global warming that it takes a collaboration among many disciplines to address and attempt to solve. In reading Latour’s book, I realized that Theory could be pragmatic and action-related.
