MirrorStudio: A Beginning

The concept for MirrorStudio started developing early in the 365 Days project in autumn 2006. As I began shooting self-portraits every day, I found myself shooting myself in a variety of reflective surfaces: bathroom mirrors, shop windows, puddles of water, car mirrors, glass objects, metallic objects like faucets—the list goes on. My influences are also cinematic, and I readily drew from that storehouse to compose the still shots. The reflective surfaces theme became a through-line creatively, and eventually for my deeper understanding of myself as I looked back on the year.
