Beginning seated
It occurred to me that maybe I’d start this Walking Mediation blog… seated. Because I’m seated, and I’ve been telling myself to get back to an un-sedentary state of practices for a while now (in recent moments, and also months, and also a few years because I changed momentum during the pandemic.) It’s been 17+ years since I walked myself a few blocks to see the sap dripping from a tree in a small local park, and sit under that tree with my camera, taking pictures one of nature’s slow time wonders—sap dripping—and think about the Buddha sitting beneath the Bodhi tree.
As I get back to walking again, I wanted first to remember to point out why I’m here typing on the mobile phone, away from the computer—a focus on unsedentarying my lifestyle, and being in the time with this era. And so I’m beginning seated with this mobile phone in my hand, feeling a strain in my middle spine, where presumably a disc is bulging, and planning to beginning working on fixing that, and overall improving my lifestyle again. People who have never moved away from the laptop to unsedentary themselves… and now I can also additionally help by noting that a stagnant body with a mobile phone— I had stayed movement-oriented for over a decade, working with mostly only with iPhone productivity. I took this downturn when outdoor park-walking became nearly impossible with Covid. And so to get back into body practices. I’ll write as I remediate. And as my practice evolves in this new stage.
