In person, I went to go see Toni Morrison.

In person, I went to go see Toni Morrison. It was a reading at Barnes & Noble Union Square in Manhattan. (I live here in NYC.) Her lyrical short novel Sula had made an impression on me, and I still hoped to write fiction again someday. I was somewhat peaceably living with the fact that my neurological inquiry had made me give up the imagination, in favor of nonfictional scientific analysis. I won’t talk about fiction too much right now, but the point is: I was out and about visiting, trying to continue to learn. Lectures by Nobel Prize winners seemed like the thing to prioritize. Thanks, Toni Morrison.
