Theater Philosophy
It’s important to me to start here because I believe in Philosophy as the vocation that came to me in my 30s so much. My undergrad was in Theater: Dramatic Literature, Theater History, & Cinema. I read the Theater literature, and I loved reading it, getting an overview of the history of theater, and keeping that history in my mind as I set out to become a playwright. My program required one Theater Theory course, and I somehow in my interior mind convinced myself to leave it for almost last of the 10 required classes. My rationale was that, in assessing levels of difficulty in reading, I’d be a more sophisticated reader of the philosophy in a few years. Somewhat curmudgeonly, somewhat inspired, I looked toward that growth. And, a dozen years later, it turns out to be my favorite thing.
